The Indian Army’s Western Command has unveiled the vision for Mechanisation Technology Seminar 2.0 (MTS 2.0), an initiative aimed at transforming existing military platforms into advanced, future-ready combat systems through technological innovation, modernisation and indigenous solutions.

The seminar, themed ‘CHAKRA – Transforming Existing Platforms for Future Combat’, will be held on December 14–15, 2026, at Chandimandir Military Station in collaboration with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM).

Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, inaugurated the curtain raiser for the seminar at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi on October 26.

Focus on Combat Modernisation and Indigenous Technology:

An initiative of Western Command, MTS 2.0 seeks to enhance the combat effectiveness of mechanised forces by upgrading and adapting existing military platforms to meet evolving battlefield requirements.

The seminar will bring together representatives from the Indian Army, defence industry and academia to explore technological advancements, identify capability gaps and develop practical solutions for the modernisation of mechanised forces.

Its key focus areas include combat capability enhancement, harnessing technology, adaptability, kinetic capabilities, refurbishment and Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance). Discussions will also focus on translating operational requirements into clearly defined Problem Definition Statements (PDS) to guide the development of implementable technological solutions.

    Strengthening Army–Industry–Academia Collaboration:

The curtain raiser highlighted the importance of technology-driven modernisation and closer collaboration between military users, industry representatives and academic institutions.

By encouraging indigenous innovation and the effective upgrading of existing platforms, the initiative aims to identify practical ways to improve combat capability, operational resilience and battlefield readiness.

MTS 2.0 reflects the Indian Army’s emphasis on adapting to emerging operational challenges while strengthening domestic defence technology and manufacturing capabilities.

The December seminar is expected to provide a dedicated platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, address military requirements and explore solutions that can enhance the effectiveness of mechanised forces in an evolving battlefield environment.
