The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS), comprising INS Tir, INS Sujata and Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sarathi, arrived in Colombo on October 26 for a port visit aimed at strengthening maritime co-operation between India and Sri Lanka.

The ships received a ceremonial welcome from the Sri Lanka Navy in the presence of a naval band. The visit will facilitate professional interactions between the two navies and provide sea trainees with valuable exposure to naval practices and procedures.

The Director General of Naval Training and the Commander of the Eastern Naval Area of the Sri Lanka Navy interacted with trainees onboard the Indian ships following their arrival.

During the port call, personnel from both navies will participate in professional engagements, cross-training visits and a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) to enhance coordination, exchange expertise and deepen mutual understanding. Community outreach programmes and public ship visits are also planned.

The visit highlights the enduring maritime partnership between India and Sri Lanka and reflects India’s MAHASAGAR vision — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions — which emphasises regional cooperation, maritime security and shared prosperity.
