A delegation from the Centre for Defence Management (CDM), Integrated Defence Staff (IDS), visited Thailand as part of the International Strategic Management Tour (ISMT), engaging with Indian diplomatic representatives and the Royal Thai Air Force on strategic affairs, defence cooperation and military co-ordination.
During the visit, the delegation interacted with the Ambassador of India in Bangkok to discuss bilateral strategic ties, government cooperation, joint military exercises and coordination between the defence forces of the two countries.
The delegation also visited the Royal Thai Air Force Air War College, where it shared insights on Net Assessment, a strategic planning approach used to evaluate comparative capabilities, strengths, vulnerabilities and long-term security challenges. The engagement provided a platform for professional exchange and discussions on strategic perspectives.
The programme further included a visit to the Royal Thai Air Force Museum, offering an opportunity to engage with Thailand’s military aviation heritage.
The engagements underscored the importance of defence diplomacy, institutional dialogue and professional military exchanges in strengthening India–Thailand relations. Regular interactions between defence establishments contribute to mutual understanding and create opportunities to enhance cooperation in military training, exercises and strategic assessment.
India and Thailand maintain defence ties through military exchanges, joint exercises and bilateral defence dialogue. Their cooperation also holds significance in the wider Indo-Pacific security environment, where regional partnerships play an important role in promoting stability and maritime security.
The ISMT delegation’s visit reflects continued efforts to strengthen institutional engagement and explore avenues for closer defence cooperation between India and Thailand.
The visit reinforced the role of strategic dialogue and professional military engagement in advancing bilateral defence relations.
