The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is stepping up efforts to expand its footprint across West Bengal and Sikkim, with a renewed focus on youth development, discipline, leadership and national integration.

Around 500 NCC cadets from the Kolkata B and C Groups, under the aegis of the NCC Directorate, West Bengal and Sikkim, participated in the Raksha Bandhan celebrations at Nazrul Mancha, Kolkata, alongside West Bengal Chief Minister Shri Suvendu Adhikari and other dignitaries.

The Chief Minister highlighted the NCC’s contribution to nation-building and its role in preparing young people to become responsible citizens. He also stressed the need to expand NCC coverage to more schools and colleges across the state, underlining the importance of providing wider opportunities for youth to engage in structured training and community service.

The event showcased the NCC’s core values of unity, service, discipline and patriotism, while highlighting its contribution to strengthening the bond between youth development and national service.

    State–NCC synergy gets fresh impetus:

The push for greater NCC participation comes amid efforts to strengthen institutional co-ordination between the organisation and the West Bengal Government.

On August 27, 2026, the Additional Director General (ADG), NCC Directorate West Bengal and Sikkim, met West Bengal Chief Secretary Dr Manoj Agarwal to review key NCC-related issues, pending matters and measures to strengthen the organisation’s ecosystem across the state.

The ADG briefed the Chief Secretary on the NCC’s role in youth development, character building, leadership training, discipline and national integration, besides preparing young people for responsible citizenship.

Discussions focused on resolving pending issues and creating a more enabling environment for expanding NCC activities and ensuring their effective functioning across West Bengal.

The Chief Secretary assured the ADG of the State Government’s support in addressing the outstanding issues and further strengthening NCC activities.

The developments underline a growing emphasis on State–NCC synergy, with both sides seeking to expand opportunities for young people to develop discipline, leadership, a spirit of service and a strong sense of national responsibility.

For the NCC, a wider institutional presence across educational institutions could provide a stronger platform for youth engagement while reinforcing its larger objective of building a disciplined, resilient and socially responsible generation.
