The two-day BRICS National Security Advisers (NSA) meeting commenced in New Delhi today under the chairmanship of National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, bringing together security chiefs and senior representatives from the bloc’s 11 member nations.Delegates from India, Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates are participating in the high-level discussions focused on addressing evolving global security concerns.

Held under the theme ‘Non-traditional Security Challenges Confronting the World Today’, the meeting will examine the changing nature of national security threats, with particular emphasis on emerging technologies and their impact on global security. Key areas of discussion include cybersecurity, digital vulnerabilities and threats driven by artificial intelligence.

National Security Advisers and heads of delegation will also review the outcomes of recent BRICS Joint Working Group meetings on Counter-Terrorism and Security in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies.
The gathering comes as India assumes the BRICS Chairship for the fourth time in 2026, having previously led the grouping in 2012, 2016 and 2021. India’s chairmanship is being conducted under the theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’, reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision outlined during the 2025 Rio Summit.

Over the years, BRICS has expanded its agenda beyond economic cooperation to focus on three key pillars: political and security cooperation, economic and financial partnership, and people-to-people exchanges.
