Baku: External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar met Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, where the two leaders exchanged views on key regional and global developments from a strategic perspective and explored avenues to strengthen bilateral relations.

Describing the discussions as focused and forward-looking, Jaishankar said India and Azerbaijan are independent-minded nations that make their own decisions on important international issues.

The External Affairs Minister highlighted the longstanding cultural ties and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, emphasising that mutual respect for each other’s values provides a strong foundation for building a contemporary partnership.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on various aspects of bilateral relations and discuss important developments shaping the regional and international landscape.

JAISHANKAR, BAYRAMOV DISCUSS ECONOMIC AND ENERGY CO-OPERATION:

Earlier, Jaishankar held talks with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, with both sides exploring ways to further expand bilateral co-operation.

The discussions focused on strengthening economic engagement, particularly in trade, investment and energy—key pillars of India-Azerbaijan relations.

Jaishankar expressed confidence that significant opportunities exist to enhance bilateral trade and investment, underlining the potential to deepen economic cooperation between the two countries.

The diplomatic engagements reflect India’s continued efforts to strengthen partnerships with countries across regions through strategic dialogue, economic cooperation and sustained people-to-people connections.
