Governor of West Bengal Shri R. N. Ravi has called upon all State and Private Universities in West Bengal, along with their affiliated colleges and institutions, to observe 14 August as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.
The Governor urged universities to bring together students, faculty members and parents to remember the horrors of Partition and its profound impact on Bengal. The observance, he said, would help the younger generation understand one of the darkest chapters of the country’s history, including the immense suffering endured by millions during Partition and the forces that led to it.
Bengal bore some of the worst horrors of Partition, with millions facing displacement, loss of lives and livelihoods, besides deep social, cultural and economic disruption. The observance is intended to create greater awareness among young people about this painful chapter of history and encourage vigilance against forces that seek to divide society.
Shri R. N. Ravi has also called upon the citizens of West Bengal, particularly the youth, to participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign by hoisting the national flag with pride at their homes and workplaces.
In his appeal, the Governor said:“The Tiranga is the pride of every Bharatiya, expressing deep gratitude to our great heroes who sacrificed everything for Bharat’s freedom and the ideals for which they gave their lives.West Bengal stood at the heart of this national awakening. From here, the call of Vande Mataram stirred the nation and gave new strength to the freedom movement, inspiring generations to rise for the freedom of Bharat Mata.”
“Today, I call upon my sisters and brothers of West Bengal, and especially my young friends, to join the nation in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign by hoisting the Tiranga with pride at home and at the workplace. Let every Tiranga be the expression of our resolve to carry its spirit forward in building a strong, united and Viksit Bharat by 2047.”- he added.
The Governor’s appeal seeks to connect the remembrance of Partition with the values of national unity, patriotism and collective responsibility, while encouraging the younger generation to learn from history and contribute towards building a strong, united and developed India.
