Governor of West Bengal Shri R. N. Ravi joined hundreds of students and young people at the University of Calcutta on Sunday for the nationwide launch of the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan’, a 100-week national campaign against drug abuse launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the youth of Bharat are playing an increasingly important role in shaping the country’s policies, setting national priorities and driving its transformation towards the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. Describing young people as the nation’s greatest asset, he urged them to lead a people’s movement against drug abuse and narco-terrorism and become ambassadors of a drug-free Bengal and a drug-free Bharat by inspiring others to join the national campaign.
Emphasising the crucial role of educational institutions in protecting young people from the dangers of substance abuse, the Governor called upon universities and colleges to spearhead the movement for drug-free campuses. He said that creating a Nasha Mukt environment is essential for nurturing a healthy, responsible and future-ready generation capable of contributing meaningfully to the country’s development.
The Governor joined the national programme alongside State Higher Education Minister Shri Jagannath Chattopadhyay, University of Calcutta Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ashutosh Ghosh, university officials, faculty members and students, who participated in the event and watched the Prime Minister’s address launching the campaign.
As part of the programme, students, faculty members and guests administered a pledge to remain free from drugs and to spread awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse. The pledge reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the national mission of building a drug-free Bharat through collective awareness and community participation.
