The Indian Air Force’s (IAF) renowned Suryakiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) is set to enthral the people of Bhavnagar with a spectacular nine-aircraft aerobatic display at Bortalav on November 1, 2026, at 1030 hours.
Flying nine Hawk Mk 132 aircraft, manufactured under licence by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the team will demonstrate the precision, coordination and exceptional flying skills of IAF pilots through a series of breathtaking aerial manoeuvres.
The display will feature signature formations and manoeuvres, including loops, barrel rolls, inverted flying and the iconic DNA manoeuvre. The synchronised performance, complemented by vibrant saffron, white and green smoke trails, will transform the skies over Bhavnagar into a spectacular display of aerial excellence and national pride.
The event will bring the Indian Air Force’s celebrated aerobatic tradition to the historic city of Bhavnagar, offering residents an opportunity to witness the professionalism, discipline and operational precision that define the Service.
Established in 1996, the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team has emerged as one of the most recognised symbols of the Indian Air Force, earning the distinction of being its ‘Ambassadors’. With more than 850 displays across India and abroad, the team has consistently showcased India’s aviation capabilities and flying excellence on national and international platforms.
The team is commanded by Group Captain Ajay Dasarathi, with Wing Commander Tejeshwar Singh serving as Flight Commander. Wing Commander Abhimanyu Tyagi, the Senior Engineering Officer, leads the technical team responsible for aircraft maintenance and serviceability.
The squadron comprises 18 officers, including 13 pilots, three engineering officers, a commentator and a medical officer, supported by approximately 180 technical personnel. Their collective efforts ensure the highest standards of aircraft readiness, safety and precision required for demanding aerobatic performances.
Bhavnagar, founded by Maharaja Bhavsinhji Gohil in the eighteenth century, has a rich maritime, royal and cultural heritage. Historically an important trading centre with links across the Arabian Sea, the city provides a distinctive setting for the aerial spectacle.
Beyond the breathtaking manoeuvres, the display reflects the Indian Air Force’s continued efforts to connect with citizens, showcase its professional excellence and inspire the next generation to pursue careers in military aviation.
Through its precision formations and spectacular performances, the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team continues to embody the spirit of teamwork, courage and excellence, reinforcing public engagement with the Indian Air Force and bringing the pride of the nation’s air warriors closer to the people.
