The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted searches at 10 locations across Jammu & Kashmir as part of its investigation into a cross-border terror conspiracy involving Pakistan-based handlers of the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and their alleged network of local Over Ground Workers (OGWs).
The searches were carried out in Kupwara, Kulgam, Bandipora, Baramulla and Sopore to gather additional evidence on the conspiracy and establish the role of individuals suspected of providing logistical and other support to infiltrated terrorists.
The case was initially registered as FIR No. 0024/2026 at Police Station Zakura, Srinagar, and was subsequently re-registered by the NIA as RC-02/2026/NIA/JMU under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act.
The investigation was launched following the arrest of an alleged LeT-linked OGW during a late-night naka operation on 31 March 2026. A hand grenade and live ammunition were recovered from his possession. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Pakistani nationals allegedly connected with the conspiracy and helped investigators identify members of the suspected local support network.
According to the investigation, Pakistan-based LeT handlers allegedly maintained links with local associates who were being used to facilitate the communication, movement and concealment of infiltrated terrorists, besides arranging shelter, conducting reconnaissance and providing other logistical assistance.
The NIA is also probing the network’s financial transactions, communication channels, movement of accused persons and the supply chain of arms and explosives to establish the wider structure and operational reach of the conspiracy.
During Sunday’s searches, investigators seized or secured additional material considered relevant to the case. The material is being examined and corroborated with evidence gathered during the course of the investigation.
