Eastern Railway has actively joined ongoing rescue and relief operations at the site of the factory building collapse at Taratala, Kolkata, in co-ordination with state authorities and national disaster response agencies.
Under the guidance of General Manager Shri Milind Deoskar, rescue teams from Howrah Division, Sealdah Division, and Liluah Workshop were swiftly mobilised and deployed to the incident site at approximately 17:00 hrs till today. The prompt response was initiated following a request from the state administration to support ongoing search and rescue efforts.

The 70-member Eastern Railway rescue contingent is working in close coordination with personnel of the Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 2nd Battalion, to assist in the removal of debris and facilitate search operations for those feared trapped.

The teams are equipped with specialised rescue tools, including oxy-cutting sets, abrasive cutting equipment, and plasma cutting systems, enabling safe and systematic clearance of collapsed structures and obstructive debris under challenging conditions.

Eastern Railway personnel continue to operate at the site with urgency and precision, contributing technical support and manpower to strengthen multi-agency rescue efforts.

Chief Public Relations Officer Shri Shibram Majhi stated: “In this hour of tragedy, Eastern Railway stands unyieldingly committed to saving every single life trapped beneath the rubble. Our brave teams are working tirelessly around the clock, driven by pure humanity to bring hope and healing back to the families.”

The operation continues in co-ordination with all concerned agencies as rescue efforts remain ongoing.
