The 106 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) PARA, popularly known as the “Bangalore Terriers”, has returned to its permanent location in Bengaluru after completing an intensive three-year field tenure in Jammu & Kashmir.
The battalion was deployed in Jammu & Kashmir from June 2023 to September 2026 in a challenging counter-terrorism operational environment. The unit completed its tenure incident-free and returned with enhanced operational experience and a high level of preparedness.
Currently commanded by Colonel Tejas B. Candade, Sena Medal, of 2 PARA (Special Forces), the battalion maintained a sustained focus on operational training throughout its deployment. Training activities included battle drills, firing practices and Quick Reaction Team (QRT) drills, helping maintain high standards of operational readiness.
The battalion also distinguished itself in military competitions, including winning the Inter-Battalion Platoon Competition conducted under the aegis of the Formation Headquarters. Its training standards were subsequently appreciated by various Formation Commanders in the chain of command.

A proud operational legacy:
The 106 Infantry Battalion (TA) PARA was raised on October 1, 1960, at Jalandhar Cantonment and was initially affiliated with The Punjab Regiment. The unit shifted its permanent location to Bengaluru in 1966 and was permanently affiliated with The Parachute Regiment on April 1, 1979.
The Bangalore Terriers have a distinguished operational history spanning both military operations and humanitarian assistance.
During the 1965 Indo-Pak War, troops of the battalion captured 36 Pakistani SSG commandos near Adampur in Punjab.
The battalion also participated in humanitarian relief operations following the 1999 Odisha Super Cyclone under Operation Sahayta, reflecting the Territorial Army’s role beyond conventional military operations.
After its extended deployment in Jammu & Kashmir, the Bangalore Terriers have now returned to Bengaluru, carrying forward a legacy of operational service, military preparedness and commitment to the nation.
