President Droupadi Murmu has approved 78 gallantry awards, including 13 posthumous honours, for personnel of the Defence Forces and Central Armed Police Forces on the eve of the 80th Independence Day.
The awards recognise acts of exceptional courage, valour and devotion to duty by personnel serving the nation.
The approved honours include nine Kirti Chakras, of which seven are posthumous, one Bar to Shaurya Chakra, and 19 Shaurya Chakras, including one posthumous award.
The list also comprises five Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry), 36 Sena Medals (Gallantry), including five posthumous awards, three Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry) and five Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry).
The gallantry awards honour the courage and sacrifice of personnel of the armed forces and Central Armed Police Forces in the service of the nation.
