Prime Minister Narendra Modi today marked the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A), describing the decision taken on August 5, 2019, as a significant milestone in India’s journey towards inclusive development.
In a statement, the Prime Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have witnessed broad-based transformation over the past seven years. He highlighted progress in infrastructure development and the expansion of opportunities in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and sports.
Modi also stated that the full application of the Constitution of India in the two regions has extended constitutional rights to women and members of marginalized communities who, according to him, had been deprived of several such rights for decades.
The Prime Minister noted that this year’s anniversary coincides with the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. He said that Mookerjee’s commitment to national unity continues to inspire generations and added that the vision he advocated was realized through the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A) on August 5, 2019.
Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Modi said the government remains focused on ensuring that every citizen has the opportunity to pursue their aspirations and contribute to the vision of a “Viksit Bharat.”
The Prime Minister shared these remarks in a post on X while commemorating the anniversary of the constitutional changes implemented in 2019.
“Seven years ago, on this day, Articles 370 and 35(A) became history, marking a decisive new chapter in the journey of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh.Since then, the lives of the people of J&K and Ladakh have witnessed wide-ranging transformation. Infrastructure has expanded, opportunities in areas such as education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and sports have grown. Be it the women or the marginalised communities, those who were denied their basic constitutional rights for decades have been empowered thanks to the full application of the Constitution of India.”
