The first batch of pilgrims undertaking the annual Kailash Mansarovar Yatra crossed into China through the Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district on Monday, marking the beginning of this year’s pilgrimage via the traditional route.
The group completed all mandatory immigration and border formalities before being formally handed over to the Chinese authorities by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at the border crossing.
The first batch comprises 52 members, including 48 pilgrims, one medical staff member, and three kitchen staff. After entering China, the pilgrims will stay at designated transit camps before proceeding towards the sacred Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in the coming days.
The ITBP has been responsible for security, border management, and logistical coordination along the high-altitude route, facilitating the safe and smooth movement of pilgrims through the Himalayan frontier.
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is one of the most revered pilgrimages for devotees, with Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar holding deep spiritual significance for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of the Bon faith.
