In a solemn tribute to extraordinary courage and selfless service to the nation, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, conferred prestigious gallantry awards upon personnel of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces and State/Union Territory Police during Phase-I of the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2026 held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
Recognising acts of exceptional bravery in the face of grave danger, the President awarded 07 Kirti Chakras, including 02 posthumous, 15 Vir Chakras, including 03 posthumous, and 29 Shaurya Chakras, including 01 posthumous, to distinguished personnel who displayed conspicuous gallantry, unwavering dedication and the highest standards of professional excellence in the line of duty.
The awardees were honoured for their remarkable acts of valour during counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations, rescue missions and other challenging operational engagements, often undertaken under intense hostile conditions and at great personal risk.
The ceremony reflected the nation’s deep gratitude towards its bravehearts whose courage, sacrifice and commitment to duty continue to safeguard India’s sovereignty, security and national interests. The gallantry award recipients embody the finest traditions of service and stand as enduring symbols of patriotism, leadership and devotion to the nation.
