In a major crackdown on maritime narcotics smuggling, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in coordination with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Gujarat, seized nearly 115 kg of cocaine during a joint intelligence-based operation conducted off the Mundra coast between May 25 and 26.
According to officials, the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs shared by ATS Gujarat regarding suspected smuggling activity in the Mundra anchorage area. Acting swiftly on the information, ICG interceptor boats carrying ATS personnel carried out an extensive search operation in the region.
During the surveillance mission, authorities detected suspicious activity onboard a container vessel. The joint team immediately moved to the location and recovered five bags floating in the sea. On examination, the bags were found to contain 115 packets of white powdery substance, each weighing approximately one kilogram.
Preliminary tests confirmed the substance to be cocaine, with the total seized contraband weighing around 115 kg. The estimated international market value of the narcotics is approximately ₹1,150 crore, according to open-source assessments.
Following the seizure, the vessel involved was escorted to port for further investigation by concerned agencies.
Officials stated that this marks the 15th successful anti-narcotics operation jointly conducted by the Indian Coast Guard and ATS Gujarat over the past five years, highlighting their continued efforts to strengthen coastal security and curb maritime drug trafficking under the national vision of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat.”
