The consensus on the New Delhi Declaration at the BRICS Summit was the result of year-long engagement and consultations at various levels during India’s BRICS Chairship, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Saturday.
Addressing the media at Bharat Mandapam, Secretary (Economic Relations) Sudhakar Dalela described the adoption of the declaration as one of the defining outcomes of India’s BRICS Chairship.
Dalela said India’s approach to the chairship had been people-centric, with BRICS countries working together to deliver practical and development-oriented outcomes.
He thanked the member countries for their cooperation and said that more than 50 outcomes had emerged from India’s year-long BRICS Chairship.
The MEA official said BRICS leaders, while articulating their respective national perspectives during the summit, demonstrated broad convergence on the need to strengthen multilateralism.
The leaders also emphasised the importance of making global governance institutions more representative, inclusive, effective and responsive to contemporary global realities.
The adoption of the New Delhi Declaration is being seen as a key outcome of India’s BRICS Chairship, reflecting the grouping’s continued focus on cooperation and collective responses to global challenges.
