Troops of the Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps are undergoing intensive skiing and mountain warfare training in the high-altitude terrain of East Sikkim to enhance operational readiness in challenging environments.
The training programme focuses on improving skiing proficiency, mountain warfare capabilities, avalanche awareness, rescue operations and survival techniques under extreme weather and terrain conditions.
Conducted in the rugged Himalayan region, the exercises are aimed at equipping troops with the specialised skills required for sustained operations in snow-bound and high-altitude areas, while strengthening their ability to respond effectively to emergencies such as avalanches and adverse weather.
The training forms part of the Indian Army’s continuous efforts to maintain a high level of combat preparedness and operational capability along the country’s mountainous frontiers.
Trishakti Corps, headquartered at Sukna near Siliguri, is responsible for safeguarding India’s strategically vital eastern sector, including the sensitive Sikkim frontier along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. The Corps also plays a critical role in securing the Siliguri Corridor—the narrow land link connecting the country’s northeastern states with the rest of India—ensuring operational readiness and maintaining strategic mobility in the region.
