Assam Rifles marked the 12th International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2026 with large-scale yoga sessions across Nagaland and Mizoram under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from Assam Rifles personnel, families, students, NCC/NSS cadets, civilians and government officials, reinforcing the message of fitness, mental well-being and holistic health.
In Nagaland, mass yoga programmes were organised at Tuensang, Kiphire, Mokokchung and Mon districts. Around 300 Assam Rifles personnel and 80 NCC/NSS cadets from Zisaji Presidency College participated at Kiphire, while similar sessions at other locations drew active participation from troops, families and students. Guided yoga, pranayama and meditation sessions highlighted the benefits of yoga in promoting physical fitness, stress management and emotional balance.
In Mizoram, the main event was held at Zokhawsang, Aizawl, in collaboration with the Directorate of AYUSH, Government of Mizoram. The programme was attended by Governor Gen (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) as Chief Guest and Health & Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii as Guest of Honour. More than 350 participants, including civilians, NCC cadets, government officials and Assam Rifles personnel, joined the event. Participants also viewed the Prime Minister’s International Day of Yoga address before taking part in the Common Yoga Protocol session conducted by the National AYUSH Mission, Mizoram.
Additional yoga sessions were organised across Serchhip, Champhai, Lawngtlai, Lunglei, Siaha, Parva and Zorinpui, drawing participation from over 800 Assam Rifles personnel along with students, civilians and police personnel. Qualified instructors conducted guided sessions on asanas, pranayama and meditation, emphasising yoga’s role in healthy ageing, resilience and overall well-being.
The celebrations strengthened civil-military bonds and reaffirmed Assam Rifles’ commitment to fostering health, harmony, unity and operational readiness through the practice of yoga.
