The Indian Air Force’s renowned Suryakiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) enthralled thousands of spectators with a spectacular aerial display over Bor Talav (Gaurishankar Lake) in Bhavnagar on Sunday, showcasing the precision, co-ordination and exceptional flying skills of the country’s premier aerobatic formation.

In a first-of-its-kind air show hosted by the city, nine red-and-white Hawk Mk-132 aircraft performed an impressive series of aerobatic manoeuvres, including close-formation flying, wingtip-to-wingtip sequences, loops, rolls and inverted flying. Smoke trails in saffron, white and green transformed the skies over Bhavnagar into a vibrant display of the national tricolour.

The 30–40-minute performance drew large crowds, with residents gathering along the lakefront and at prominent vantage points across the city to witness the breathtaking spectacle.
Established in 1996, the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team is recognised as Asia’s only nine-aircraft aerobatic formation. Having completed more than 800 displays in India and abroad, the team has earned a reputation as an ambassador of the Indian Air Force. Its Hawk Mk-132 aircraft are manufactured under licence by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
The team is commanded by Group Captain Ajay Dasarathi, with Wing Commander Tejeshwar Singh serving as Flight Commander. The performance reflected the rigorous training, discipline, mutual trust and seamless coordination of the pilots and the supporting technical and operational personnel.
Beyond the aerial spectacle, the event featured several public outreach activities aimed at connecting citizens, particularly young people, with the Indian Air Force. A motivational stall provided information about career opportunities, recruitment and selection procedures, while an air simulator offered visitors an opportunity to experience aircraft controls and basic flying procedures.
Adding to the patriotic atmosphere, the Air Force Band of Headquarters South Western Air Command presented an impressive musical performance featuring martial tunes, patriotic melodies and ceremonial compositions.
Organised jointly by the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation and the District Administration, the event was open to the public free of charge, with designated viewing areas ensuring safe access for spectators.
Smt. Nimuben Bambhaniya, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Air Vice Marshal GS Bhullar, Senior Officer Administration, Headquarters South Western Air Command, Gandhinagar, was among the Special Guests, alongside senior ministers of the Gujarat Government and elected representatives.
The successful air show once again highlighted the Indian Air Force’s commitment to public engagement and outreach, bringing the capabilities and professionalism of its elite aerobatic team closer to citizens.
Beyond the visual spectacle, the event served as an opportunity to inspire the younger generation to explore careers in the armed forces and strengthen the enduring bond between the Indian Air Force and the people of Gujarat.
The Indian Air Force also expressed appreciation to the district administration, municipal authorities, police and supporting agencies for ensuring the smooth conduct of the event, while acknowledging the enthusiastic participation and warm response of the people of Bhavnagar.
