    Statue of Late Capt Gautam Sarma Unveiled at Biswanath

    In a solemn tribute to the valour and sacrifice of India’s armed forces personnel, Gajraj Corps supported the unveiling of a statue of Late Capt Gautam Sarma, 8 Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry (JAK LI) at Biswanath, Assam, today.

    The commemorative ceremony was attended by Lt Gen RP Kalita, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd) as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished dignitaries present included Brig Polash Choudhary (Retd), Director, Rajya Sainik Board, Assam; Brig Dr RP Singh (Retd) of 8 JAK LI; Shri Dharmendra Kumar, IRTS, Chief Commercial Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway; Shri Lakhinandan Saharia, Deputy Commissioner, Biswanath; along with senior veterans, serving military officers, ex-servicemen, family members, and prominent citizens.

    A proud son of Assam, Capt Gautam Sarma served with distinction in the 8th Battalion of the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry. He laid down his life in the line of duty on June 3, 2007, while leading an operational patrol in Jammu & Kashmir. His exemplary courage, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the nation continue to inspire both serving personnel and future generations.

    The event underscored the enduring bond between the Armed Forces, the ex-servicemen fraternity, civil administration, and the local community. Through such initiatives, Gajraj Corps reaffirms its commitment to preserving the legacy of the nation’s heroes and ensuring that their stories of sacrifice, patriotism, and service remain etched in public memory.

    The newly unveiled statue stands as a lasting symbol of Capt Gautam Sarma’s gallantry and selfless devotion to duty. It also serves as a tribute to all brave soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice in defence of the nation, inspiring generations to uphold the values of courage, honour, and service before self.
