In a major initiative to promote adventure, resilience and leadership among youth, troops of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps conducted a Basic White Water Rafting Course for National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets in Aalo, West Siang district, from October 19 to 23, 2026.
A total of 20 NCC cadets participated in the programme, representing 51 Battalion NCC and units under Group Headquarters Dibrugarh, including 10 Assam Battalion NCC and 63 Assam Battalion NCC. The contingent also included one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), one Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) and one Girls Cadet Instructor.

The course featured theoretical and practical training in white water rafting, swimming practice and tests, river-crossing drills and river signals. The activities were designed to enhance physical fitness, confidence, discipline, teamwork and the ability to respond effectively to challenging situations.
Beyond adventure training, the programme focused on motivating cadets to explore opportunities for serving the nation in uniform. An interactive lecture familiarised participants with career opportunities in the Armed Forces, encouraging them to consider a future in military service.

The educational component also included a lecture on the 1962 Sino-Indian War, highlighting its historical significance and lessons for future generations. A display of weapons and military equipment provided the cadets with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the equipment used by the Armed Forces.
The screening of Uri: The Surgical Strike further reinforced the values of courage, leadership, sacrifice and dedication to national service.
The initiative highlights the Indian Army’s continued commitment to youth engagement, character building and the development of future leaders. Through adventure-based training and educational activities, the Army seeks to nurture a spirit of patriotism, resilience and responsibility among young Indians.
Such initiatives also strengthen co-operation between the Indian Army and the NCC, reinforcing the ethos of Military-Civil Fusion and fostering a stronger bond between the Armed Forces and the youth.
