The second edition of the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon 2026 (SIM-26) was successfully conducted at Guwahati on 04 October 2026, bringing together running enthusiasts, air warriors, veterans, their families and citizens from across the North Eastern region in a spectacular celebration of fitness, valour and national pride.

The marathon is a tribute to Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, Param Vir Chakra, whose unparalleled courage and supreme sacrifice during the 1971 Indo-Pak War continue to remain an enduring source of inspiration. His valour, determination and unwavering devotion to duty embody the highest traditions of the Indian Air Force and continue to inspire generations.

Air Marshal IS Walia, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command, flagged off SIM-26 at Guwahati. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from people across diverse age groups, with more than 3,500 runners participating in the 21.1 km, 10 km and 5 km categories. The overwhelming response reflected the spirit of inclusivity, enthusiasm and camaraderie that the event seeks to foster, while promoting a culture of fitness and healthy living among the people of the region.

The marathon commenced on an energetic note with a Zumba warm-up session, followed by inspiring performances by the Indian Air Force Band and a synchronised display by the Air Warrior Drill Team, adding to the vibrancy and patriotic spirit of the occasion.

The Guwahati edition of the marathon holds special significance as it brings the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon to the North Eastern region, further strengthening the bond between the Indian Air Force and the people of the region. The event provided a unique platform for citizens to run alongside air warriors and veterans, celebrating shared values of discipline, determination, teamwork and service to the nation.

SIM-26 thus served not merely as a sporting event, but as a powerful celebration of the spirit of fitness, courage, unity and national pride, carrying forward the inspiring legacy of Param Vir Chakra Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon.
