With the Quad stepping up efforts to strengthen a free, open, resilient and secure Indo-Pacific, senior officials from India, Australia, Japan and the United States met in New Delhi to advance practical cooperation on maritime security, economic resilience, emerging technologies and humanitarian response.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri hosted the Quad Sherpas’ meeting on September 3, which brought together Elly Lawson, Deputy Secretary, Strategic Planning & Coordination Group, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia; Hiroyuki Namazu, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Japan; and Sergio Gor, Special Envoy to South and Central Asia and US Ambassador to India.
The meeting followed the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on May 26, 2026, and was convened to take forward its outcomes and prepare for the next ministerial meeting.
The Sherpas reviewed progress across ongoing Quad initiatives and discussed ways to translate the grouping’s priorities into concrete, action-oriented cooperation. Key areas included maritime and transnational security, economic prosperity and security, critical and emerging technologies, and humanitarian assistance and emergency response.
The officials also exchanged views on developments in the Indo-Pacific and the broader regional and global environment, underscoring the Quad’s growing focus on strengthening regional resilience and addressing emerging strategic challenges.
The Sherpas reaffirmed the importance of delivering practical outcomes and agreed to continue consultations in the lead-up to the next Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
