On the occasion of India’s Independence Day, prominent Baloch Leader, Mir Yar Baloch, conveyed heartfelt greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India, paying tribute to the country’s freedom fighters and calling for deeper political, cultural and economic ties between India and Balochistan.
In his message, Mir Yar Baloch paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi, Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Rani Lakshmibai, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and countless other freedom fighters, describing their sacrifices as an enduring source of inspiration for peoples seeking justice, freedom and self-determination.
He also highlighted the historical and spiritual significance of the Hinglaj Mata Temple in Balochistan, describing it as a symbol of the longstanding civilisational and cultural connections between the people of Balochistan and India.
Balochistan’s relationship with India, he argued, should not remain confined by decades of political distance. Mir Yar Baloch accused Pakistan of using diplomatic platforms to portray the Baloch question as an internal matter and alleged that the people of Balochistan have been subjected to an imposed political arrangement. He called for greater international attention to what he described as the Balochistan question and urged India to engage more closely with the Baloch people.
In a particularly strong message, he described Pakistan as a major source of instability in the region and argued that addressing the Balochistan issue could have wider implications for regional security, including developments concerning Kashmir and cross-border militancy.
Turning to economic cooperation, Mir Yar Baloch linked his vision for Balochistan with India’s ambition to become one of the world’s leading economies. He said Balochistan’s ports, natural resources and strategic geographic position could provide India with new opportunities for trade, investment and connectivity, while Indian technology, infrastructure expertise and industrial capabilities could contribute to the development of Balochistan.-Mir added.
He proposed cooperation across sectors including infrastructure, energy, railways, airports, education, manufacturing, critical-mineral exploration and maritime trade. According to him, such co-operation could create economic opportunities for both sides and contribute to broader regional development.
“The resources of Balochistan can become the foundation of an economic transformation in the region, while India’s technology, skills and industrial capacity can help build a modern and prosperous Balochistan,” Mir Yar Baloch said in his message.
Concluding his Independence Day message, Mir Yar Baloch called for India and the people of Balochistan to overcome decades of political distance and explore avenues for closer engagement, cooperation and friendship.
His message comes amid continuing debates surrounding Balochistan’s political status, human rights situation and relations with Pakistan, while also placing renewed emphasis on the historical, cultural and economic links that he believes can form the basis of a closer India–Balochistan relationship.
