The FIFA World Cup 2026™ will open in spectacular fashion in Mexico City today, where a global line-up of artists, cultural figures, and football ambassadors will headline a pre-match and opening ceremony designed to launch the biggest edition of the tournament in history.
Taking place at Mexico City Stadium 90 minutes before kick-off, the ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11:30 local time, with fans encouraged to arrive early to take part in the opening spectacle.
The event will blend football, music, and culture, marking the first chapter of a three-nation ceremonial series that will continue across Canada and the United States as the tournament unfolds across 16 host cities and features an expanded 48-team format.
Global music takes centre stage:
The opening ceremony will feature a wide-ranging line-up drawn from the Official FIFA World Cup 2026™ Album, bringing together some of the world’s most recognisable performers.
Among those set to appear are Belinda, Burna Boy, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, and Shakira, each contributing to a show designed to reflect the tournament’s global reach and cultural diversity.
Hot off recent collaborations, Ryan Castro will join J Balvin on stage, adding further momentum to the Latin music presence at the event.
Anthems and emotional highlights:
A key moment of the ceremony will come with the performance of the host and visiting national anthems. Mexican singer Alejandro Fernández will perform Mexico’s national anthem, while Tyla will perform South Africa’s anthem, creating a symbolic gesture of international unity ahead of the tournament’s opening match.
The newly unveiled official anthem, DNA, will also be performed live for the first time. The track will be delivered by Andrea Bocelli, David Guetta, Megan Thee Stallion, and EJAE, combining orchestral scale, electronic production, and contemporary global pop influence.
The anthem, built around themes of unity, resilience, and identity in football, is positioned as the emotional centrepiece of FIFA’s tournament music programme.
Cultural ambassadors and global stage:
FIFA World Cup 2026 Ambassador Salma Hayek Pinault will also appear during the pre-match ceremony, welcoming fans and highlighting Mexico City’s role in hosting the tournament opener.
