In a significant development in Manipur’s insurgency landscape, Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) chairman Laishram Ranjit Meitei on Monday announced that the outfit would no longer indulge in armed or unlawful activities and has decided to return to the mainstream.
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of the Home Coming ceremony at Mantripukhri Garrison, Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), Ranjit said the organisation would now focus on contributing to the development of Manipur and the country through peaceful means.
“From now onwards, no illegal activities such as extortion or unlawful detention of individuals will be carried out in the name of KCP-PWG. Anyone found indulging in such acts cannot claim to represent our organisation and may be dealt with by society and the authorities,” he said.
The KCP-PWG chief also clarified that any person carrying out criminal activities while using the outfit’s name would have no association with the organisation and would not be recognised as its representative.
The declaration comes amid continued efforts by security forces and authorities in the Northeast to encourage insurgent groups and their cadres to abandon violence and join the mainstream.
The Home Coming ceremony at Mantripukhri Garrison marked another step in the ongoing peace and rehabilitation process aimed at promoting stability and development in Manipur.
