The Indian Navy has assumed a significant leadership position in the world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC 2026, by taking charge of a key role in theatre-level Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations.
For the first time, the Indian Navy is serving as the Deputy Commander Task Force for Anti-Submarine Warfare during the multinational exercise, marking an important milestone in India’s growing contribution to global maritime security initiatives.
The Indian Navy’s P-8I long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft is playing a crucial operational role in the exercise, supporting mission planning, operational briefings, and professional interactions with participating navies. The aircraft’s deployment reflects India’s advanced maritime surveillance capabilities and its commitment to enhancing cooperation with partner nations.
RIMPAC 2026, conducted in and around the Hawaiian Islands, has brought together 30 countries, featuring more than 30 warships, five submarines, over 206 aircraft, and approximately 30,000 personnel. The exercise focuses on improving interoperability, strengthening operational coordination, and addressing common maritime security challenges.
The Indian Navy’s active participation underscores India’s commitment to a free, open, inclusive, and rules-based Indo-Pacific. Through engagements such as RIMPAC, the Navy continues to build stronger partnerships and contribute to collective efforts aimed at ensuring maritime stability and security.
