The Indian Army’s Corps of Signals motorcycle expedition, ‘Wheels of Valour: Sanchar Shakti,’ reached the Kargil War Memorial at Dras on Tuesday, marking a key milestone in its 11-day journey to honour the soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War.
The 20-member expedition, comprising officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), Other Ranks (ORs) and women personnel of the Corps of Signals, has traversed challenging terrain from the plains of northern India to the high-altitude regions of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, showcasing the endurance, discipline and operational spirit of the Indian Army.
At the Kargil War Memorial, the team paid tribute to the bravehearts of Operation Vijay, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to the values of duty, honour and selfless service.
During the expedition, the riders also visited several prominent military memorials across the country. At Hussainiwala, they paid homage to freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, while at the Palampur War Memorial they honoured Captain Vikram Batra, Param Vir Chakra (Posthumous), Captain Saurabh Kalia and Major Sudhir Walia, Ashok Chakra (Posthumous), recognising their exceptional courage and sacrifice.
The team also visited key Corps of Signals establishments, interacting with serving personnel and highlighting the Corps’ critical role in maintaining secure and uninterrupted military communications during operational deployments.
One of the highlights of the expedition was the Corps of Signals Dare Devils’ world record attempt inside the Atal Tunnel, Rohtang. Dedicated to Kargil Vijay Diwas, the feat involved 10 riders performing on two motorcycles while covering the 9.8-km tunnel in 9 minutes and 47.97 seconds under strict safety protocols. The event was conducted with support from the district administration, Himachal Pradesh Police, the Border Roads Organisation and other agencies.
As part of its nationwide outreach, the expedition also interacted with National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets, students, veterans and local communities, encouraging young people to embrace the values of patriotism, discipline, leadership and service while promoting careers in the Armed Forces.
The expedition reflects the Indian Army’s emphasis on adventure activities to build leadership, resilience, teamwork and operational readiness, while strengthening the bond between the military and the public.
Following its visit to Dras, the expedition will continue its journey through Leh, Rezang La, Nyoma, Debring and Sarchu, carrying forward its message of courage, sacrifice and national service.
