The Indian Army conducted the first day of a two-day Mega Medical Camp at Government Higher Secondary School, Basantgarh, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, under Operation Sadbhavana on October 17, bringing essential healthcare services closer to residents of remote and underserved communities.
The camp received an encouraging response, with approximately 600 patients registering for medical assistance on the opening day. A dedicated team of medical professionals provided comprehensive healthcare services, including general medicine, eye examinations, dental care, cardiac screening, respiratory care and ENT consultations.
Special attention was given to the healthcare needs of elderly citizens, women and children. Free medicines were distributed, while wheelchairs, crutches, walkers and hearing aids were provided to beneficiaries according to their medical requirements.
The camp also facilitated the early identification of health concerns, promoted preventive healthcare awareness and offered guidance on further treatment wherever necessary.

Bridging the healthcare gap in remote communities:
The initiative aimed to address the healthcare challenges faced by residents of remote areas, who often encounter difficulties accessing specialised medical services due to distance and limited facilities.
By bringing medical professionals and essential healthcare resources directly to the community, the Indian Army sought to reduce travel-related hardships and ensure timely medical assistance for those in need.
Local residents expressed appreciation for the Army’s humanitarian efforts, acknowledging its contribution to healthcare accessibility, community welfare and the strengthening of mutual trust and goodwill.
The two-day medical camp will continue on October 18, extending its services to additional beneficiaries from Basantgarh and neighbouring villages.
The initiative underscores the Indian Army’s continued commitment to humanitarian assistance, public welfare and stronger civil-military relations under Operation Sadbhavana, reinforcing its role in supporting communities beyond its core operational responsibilities.
