The Indian Army has stepped up efforts to accelerate the adoption of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) across its establishments, with 41 Army Stations identified for conversion during Financial Year 2026–27.
The PNG Transition Webinar-2026, organised at the Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantonment, brought together senior stakeholders from the Indian Army, government agencies, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), Defence Estates Organisation, Military Engineer Services (MES) and City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities.
The initiative is aligned with the Government of India’s broader vision of promoting a gas-based economy and enhancing the adoption of cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions across government establishments.
A key highlight of the event was the release of the Indian Army PNG Guide, conceived as a common reference document for formations and establishments undertaking the transition. The guide incorporates administrative, technical, safety and implementation-related requirements to facilitate a structured and standardised shift to PNG.
The webinar deliberated on a range of issues critical to the transition, including policy and regulatory requirements, statutory clearances, land-related matters, infrastructure and works, technical considerations, safety protocols, accounting and reimbursement mechanisms.
Discussions also focused on the preparedness of CGD entities, station-level implementation experiences and measures required to ensure safe and efficient integration of PNG infrastructure within Army establishments.
The Indian Army plans to progressively extend PNG adoption to other feasible establishments following the initial conversion of 41 stations in FY 2026–27.
The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the Indian Army’s commitment to ensuring a safe, efficient and sustainable transition to PNG, while strengthening energy efficiency and supporting the nation’s broader clean-energy objectives.
