Indian Army Crushes ‘PLA Encroachment’ Claims in Arunachal: Official Rebuttal Exposes Unverified Narrative

The Indian Army has categorically dismissed reports alleging fresh Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) encroachment into Arunachal Pradesh, rejecting the claims as entirely unfounded and reiterating that the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) remains under constant surveillance.

The controversy erupted after a memorandum submitted by the Nah Welfare Society (NWS), a community organisation from Taksing in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Subansiri district, alleged that Chinese forces had established camps inside Indian territory and gradually expanded their presence over the past decade. The memorandum triggered widespread media coverage, raising concerns over the security situation in one of India’s most sensitive frontier regions.

However, the Indian Army moved swiftly to set the record straight.

    The Indian Army stated:

“We have seen some media reports alleging recent encroachment by Chinese PLA and setting up of camps in Arunachal Pradesh. These reports are incorrect and without any basis.”

The Army’s unequivocal rejection directly contradicts reports suggesting that the PLA had recently occupied territory or established new military camps inside Arunachal Pradesh.

The allegations originated from the Nah Welfare Society, which claimed that five locations—Oying, Paniar (Chujarta area), Marpan (Marnafe), Potrang Lake and Tindingtang (TG)—had come under Chinese occupation since 2020. The organisation also alleged that China had developed roads, bridges and military infrastructure in areas traditionally used by local tribal communities for grazing, hunting and collecting forest produce.

While the memorandum called for immediate intervention by both the Arunachal Pradesh government and the Centre, it also expressed confidence in the Indian Army’s ability to defend India’s borders.

Despite the concerns raised by the local organisation, the Ministry of Defence has firmly rejected suggestions that there has been any recent change in the ground situation.

Ministry of Defence Issues Strong Rebuttal:

In an official statement, the Ministry of Defence described the reports as “factually incorrect and misleading,” asserting that there has been no encroachment and no alteration of the ground situation in the area mentioned.

The Ministry emphasised that the Indian Army maintains continuous surveillance across the Line of Actual Control through layered operational deployment, regular patrols, advanced surveillance systems and real-time monitoring mechanisms.

According to the Ministry, every development along the frontier is closely tracked, while any border-related issues are handled through established bilateral mechanisms and existing military protocols. It added that Indian forces remain fully operational, vigilant and prepared to respond to any contingency.

The government also urged media organisations to exercise greater responsibility while reporting on sensitive national security issues, cautioning that speculative or unverified reports risk creating unnecessary public anxiety and misrepresenting the actual situation on the ground.

    Vigilance Without Speculation:

Border management along the India-China frontier remains one of the Indian Army’s highest operational priorities. Since the 2020 eastern Ladakh crisis, India has significantly strengthened surveillance capabilities, force deployment and infrastructure across the entire northern frontier, including Arunachal Pradesh.

Military experts note that while local concerns deserve administrative attention and verification, any claims of territorial encroachment require careful examination against verified operational assessments rather than speculation. The Army’s latest clarification underscores that official monitoring mechanisms have detected no recent PLA encroachment in the area referred to by the reports.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Ministry stated that the Indian Armed Forces remain fully capable, vigilant and prepared to respond to any contingency along the nation’s borders.
