An Indian Army contingent has departed for Mongolia to participate in Exercise KHAAN QUEST 2026, a premier multinational peacekeeping exercise scheduled from today to 03 July 2026 at the Five Hills Training Area, Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia.Over 1000 military personnel from 18 nations are participating there.

The Indian contingent, comprising 40 personnel primarily from a battalion of the JAT Regiment along with troops from other Arms and Services, will join military contingents from across the globe in a collaborative training environment aimed at enhancing interoperability and operational effectiveness in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Exercise KHAAN QUEST traces its origins to 2003 as a bilateral engagement between the United States and the Mongolian Armed Forces. Since 2006, it has evolved into a multinational exercise and is now in its 23rd edition, bringing together armed forces from numerous partner nations committed to promoting international peace and security.

The exercise is designed to prepare participating contingents for peace support operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. Training will focus on joint planning and execution of tactical missions in a multinational setting, including establishment of static and mobile checkpoints, cordon and search operations, area domination patrols, evacuation of civilians from hostile environments, counter-IED drills, combat first aid and casualty evacuation procedures.

Participation in Exercise KHAAN QUEST 2026 reflects India’s enduring commitment to global peace, collective security and international cooperation. The exercise will provide an opportunity for participating nations to exchange best practices, refine tactics, techniques and procedures, and strengthen professional military relationships.

The engagement is expected to enhance operational readiness while fostering mutual trust, camaraderie and understanding among the participating armed forces, further reinforcing India’s role as a responsible and proactive contributor to United Nations peacekeeping efforts worldwide.
