The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday summoned Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi and lodged a strong protest following a collision between a Pakistani naval unit and an Indian Navy unit in international waters.
According to the MEA, the incident involved the “unacceptable and unprofessional conduct” of Pakistani naval units, which resulted in a collision with an Indian Navy vessel. The ministry said the incident occurred in international waters and caused no major damage.
India also raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the incident and referred to Article 10 of the 1991 India-Pakistan Agreement on Advance Notice of Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troop Movements.
The diplomatic protest comes amid heightened military sensitivities between the two countries. Pakistan has disputed India’s account of the incident, saying that an Indian naval vessel had carried out manoeuvres in close proximity to a Pakistani ship participating in exercises.
Both sides have subsequently raised the matter through diplomatic channels.
