India has stepped up humanitarian assistance to flood-hit Nepal, with the Indian Air Force (IAF) deploying a C-130J transport aircraft carrying 10 tonnes of essential relief material and medical supplies for people affected by the devastating flash floods.
The latest assistance is part of India’s efforts to support Nepal’s ongoing search, rescue and relief operations amid widespread disruption caused by the floods.
The IAF is also preparing additional airlift operations. C-17 and C-130 aircraft will be used to transport further relief supplies, while helicopters have been earmarked for rescue and evacuation missions in areas affected by the disaster.
The deployment comes as Nepal continues to deal with the impact of severe flash floods, which have caused loss of life, damage to infrastructure and disrupted connectivity in several areas.
India has conveyed its solidarity with Nepal and expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster.
“In the face of this challenge, India stands with Nepal and its people,” the government said, reaffirming New Delhi’s commitment to supporting its neighbouring country during the crisis.
The mobilisation of transport aircraft and helicopters is expected to strengthen Nepal’s relief efforts, particularly in areas where damaged roads and infrastructure have made access difficult.
The latest operation also underlines the IAF’s role in providing rapid humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the region, with its heavy-lift and tactical airlift fleet enabling the quick movement of relief supplies and personnel during emergencies.
India and Nepal share close bilateral ties, and New Delhi has regularly extended humanitarian assistance to Nepal during natural disasters and other emergencies.
