Hattigor located in Assam’s Udalguri district, is historically significant and best known for the renowned Hattigor Tea Estate—one of the state’s oldest and largest tea gardens, celebrated for its premium CTC tea production.

Hattigor Military Station marked the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) today with great enthusiasm, reaffirming the Indian Army’s commitment to physical fitness, mental resilience, and holistic well-being. More than 500 Army personnel participated in the event, reflecting the growing recognition of Yoga as an integral component of military preparedness and healthy living.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of lush tea gardens and verdant landscapes, the yoga session was conducted in an atmosphere of serenity and natural beauty. The tranquil surroundings provided an ideal setting for the observance, underscoring the enduring relationship between nature, wellness, and inner harmony.

The programme commenced with a brief address highlighting the theme of IDY 2026, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The address emphasized the significance of Yoga in maintaining physical vitality, emotional stability, and mental robustness throughout all stages of life. Participants were encouraged to embrace Yoga as a lifelong practice that enhances personal well-being while contributing to operational effectiveness and combat readiness.

Under the guidance of qualified instructors, personnel performed the Common Yoga Protocol comprising a series of stretching exercises, standing and balancing postures, pranayama techniques, and meditation practices. The session focused on improving flexibility, strength, endurance, concentration, and stress management—qualities essential for military professionals operating in demanding environments.

The disciplined participation of the troops reflected the Army’s enduring ethos of self-discipline, perseverance, and pursuit of excellence. Beyond its physical benefits, Yoga continues to serve as a valuable tool for fostering mental resilience, camaraderie, and emotional balance among soldiers, thereby contributing to overall force effectiveness.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to incorporate Yoga into daily routines and promote its benefits within families and communities. The celebration also served as a reminder of India’s rich cultural heritage and Yoga’s universal relevance as a means of achieving a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

The successful conduct of the programme at Hattigor Military Station stands as a testament to the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to wellness, healthy ageing, and the holistic development of its personnel. Through such initiatives, the Army continues to strengthen the physical and psychological foundations essential for a modern, capable, and resilient fighting force.
