    General VMB KRISHNAN Assumes Command of Eastern Command ​

    ​Lieutenant General VMB Krishnan, assumed the appointment of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Eastern Command today.

    He takes over the reins of the ‘Fortress of the East’ from Lieutenant General RC Tiwari, who transitions after a distinguished tenure.

    ​Commissioned into the Indian Army on 11 June 1988, the General Officer brings nearly four decades of versatile military experience to this critical frontier. His career is a tapestry of high-profile command, staff, and instructional appointments across the most challenging operational landscapes of the nation.

    ​An alumnus of prestigious military institutions, the General Officer has commanded an Infantry Battalion and an Infantry Brigade in the super-high-altitude environment of Siachen. His leadership acumen was further honed during his tenures as GOC of an Infantry Division and the elite Brahmastra Corps.

    ​In the strategic domain, Lt Gen Krishnan has served as the Director General Information Technology at IHQ of MoD (Army) and as the Defence Attaché at the High Commission of India in London. Prior to his current appointment, he served as the Quarter Master General (QMG) at Army Headquarters. As QMG, he was the architect of significant reforms in supply chain management and infrastructure, fundamentally enhancing the operational sustenance and combat readiness of the Indian Army.

    ​The General Officer also holds the prestigious appointment of Colonel of The Dogra Regiment and the Dogra Scouts. His tenure as the Commandant of the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare (CIJW) School remains a benchmark in specialized training and doctrine.

    ​Upon assuming command, the Army Commander paid solemn tribute to the Bravehearts and exhorted all ranks of the Eastern Command to maintain the highest standards of operational preparedness. He emphasized a renewed focus on jointness, technological integration, and synergy with all stakeholders to ensure absolute peace and stability across the Eastern Theatre.
