HQ 4 Corps, under the aegis of Gajraj Corps, marked World Environment Day today at Nuranang Hall, Tezpur with a focused seminar on “Decarbonising Defence Infrastructure – From Policy to Practice.” The event highlighted the Indian Army’s growing emphasis on sustainable infrastructure and climate-conscious development.
The programme featured expert sessions on green building norms, GRIHA rating systems, GHG emission quantification, and renewable energy integration. Case studies on Hattigor Military Station’s emission mapping and mitigation strategies were presented, along with technical talks by experts from GRIHA Council and National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE). A key milestone was the SVA GRIHA 4-Star certification of the ECHS Type D Polyclinic at Tezpur, recognised as the first green-certified defence infrastructure project in the region. The event also saw the release of GHG emission mapping reports by GOC 4 Corps, reinforcing a data-driven approach to sustainability.
In parallel, Gajraj Corps launched a year-long environmental conservation campaign from World Environment Day 2026 to 2027 under the theme “Jan Bhagidari Se Paryavaran Sanrakshan.” The initiative integrates troops, families, NCC cadets, students, veterans, civil administration, forest officials, and local communities across 11 districts of Assam.
The campaign includes plantation drives, afforestation, cleanliness drives, cycle rallies, nature runs, and habitat awareness programmes. As part of its opening phase, over 7,000 saplings were planted between 01–05 June 2026 across multiple locations, including Missamari, Rangia, Tamulpur, Guwahati, Sonitpur, and key river corridors. Special focus has been placed on ecological restoration, river basin stabilisation, biodiversity conservation, and soil erosion control.
Aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat and the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the initiative reflects the Indian Army’s commitment to environmental stewardship, civil–military synergy, and nation-building through sustainable practices.
Together, these initiatives underscore Gajraj Corps’ sustained push towards a greener, cleaner, and climate-resilient future.
