Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Military Intelligence personnel detained a man allegedly impersonating a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer near the Mangal Pandey Training Ground (RCTC) at Sagat Singh Dawar, Vijay Durg.
According to sources, Military Intelligence received information about a suspicious individual dressed in a CRPF uniform loitering in the vicinity of the military establishment. During preliminary inquiries, the individual was identified as Aakash Sonar, a resident of Barrackpore. Investigations revealed that he was allegedly posing as a CRPF officer despite having no affiliation with the force.
Further verification indicated that Sonar is employed as a bouncer with a logistics company owned by businessman Sheikh Mujafar. During the investigation, officials recovered photographs from Sonar’s mobile phone showing him wearing an Indian Army uniform. He is suspected of using such uniforms to project a false identity and obtain undue advantages in government-related matters.
A search of his belongings led to the recovery of a Sub-Inspector rank badge, a CPF logo, documents relating to election duty alongside senior IPS officers, approximately ₹15,000 in cash, and multiple identity cards and documents.
Investigators believe that Sonar had been moving around in security force uniforms for nearly three years. Prior to this, he was reportedly engaged in the paper trade. Authorities are also examining possible links and the extent to which the impersonation may have been used to gain access or influence in official circles.
Following initial questioning, the Military Intelligence team handed the accused over to Hastings Police Station for further legal action. A case has been registered under Hastings Police Case No. 63 dated June 23, 2026. Interrogation is ongoing, and officials are continuing to verify additional details related to the matter.
