External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday held talks with Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel, highlighting the growing partnership between India and Luxembourg amid a period of heightened global uncertainty.
During the meeting in New Delhi, Jaishankar said the relationship between the two countries was built on trust and had expanded significantly in recent years. He described Bettel’s three-day visit, accompanied by Luxembourg’s Minister of Economy, as a reflection of the deepening bilateral partnership.
Jaishankar said trade, investment and financial cooperation have remained at the core of India-Luxembourg relations, while the two sides are now exploring greater cooperation in emerging areas including space, digital technologies and green technology.
He also highlighted the expansion of health cooperation between the two countries since the COVID-19 pandemic and pointed to opportunities arising from stronger supply-chain resilience and diversification between India and Europe.
The External Affairs Minister welcomed Luxembourg’s support for the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, saying its anticipated ratification could open new avenues for bilateral economic engagement.
Luxembourg Backs India’s Global Role:
Bettel, in his remarks, described Luxembourg’s relationship with India as one based on trust and honesty and said both countries had made significant progress in strengthening their ties.
He also thanked the Indian leadership for its efforts to promote peace and build bridges between countries affected by conflicts.
Bettel arrived in New Delhi in the early hours of Monday for his three-day visit to India.
The talks are expected to further strengthen cooperation between India and Luxembourg across economic, financial, technological, health and strategic sectors, while reinforcing bilateral engagement amid evolving global geopolitical and economic challenges.
