Prominent Baloch Leader Mir Yar Baloch has called on the Baloch people to observe August 14 as a “Black Day”, coinciding with Pakistan’s Independence Day, in a strongly worded statement issued on August 13.
In the statement, Mir Yar Baloch claimed that Pakistan and Balochistan are separate countries and asserted that Balochistan has a distinct history, identity, language, culture and geographical character. The statement rejected what it described as Pakistan’s “fabricated, false, and concocted narrative” concerning Balochistan’s identity and legitimacy.
The Baloch also launched a sharp attack on Pakistan’s creation and its regional policies, alleging that Pakistan was established by Britain during the partition of India and has subsequently served the strategic interests of Western powers. It cited Pakistan’s military involvement abroad, including its role in Jordan and Saudi Arabia, as evidence of what it described as Islamabad’s pursuit of regional power and financial interests.
“Pakistan does not want peace to prevail in the region,” the statement alleged, while accusing Islamabad of using Balochistan’s strategic geography, coastline and resources to promote instability.
Calling for a mass observance on August 14, Mir Yar Baloch said Baloch people inside Balochistan and abroad would display black flags and wear black armbands to signify their opposition to Pakistan. It further called for Pakistani flags to be removed from locations in Balochistan, reiterating its claim that the territory is an independent and sovereign country.
The statement also levelled serious allegations against Pakistan’s military and air force over an alleged recent operation in the Surab-Gadar Gondon area. It claimed that nearly 30 people were killed, including women and children, while dozens were injured. These allegations could not be independently verified from the material provided.
The Baloch leader described Pakistan as an “occupying country” and accused its military of carrying out violence against Baloch people. It argued that holding Independence Day celebrations in Balochistan was incompatible with what it described as Baloch history, culture and traditional code of conduct.
“The patriot people of the Republic Of Balochistam across the globe are observing 14 August Black Day. We have nothing to do with the artificial and fake identity of terrorist Pakistan. We are proud to have our nine thousand years old dignified and distinct history”.-Mir Yar Baloch posted.
The statement comes amid continuing tensions surrounding Baloch separatist movements and Pakistan’s security operations in Balochistan, a strategically important province bordering Iran and Afghanistan and overlooking the Arabian Sea.
