Demonstrating its steadfast commitment to fostering a healthier and drug-free society, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Moreh Youth Club, observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26 June 2026 at the HTC Conference Hall, Moreh. The awareness programme underscored the importance of collective action in addressing the growing menace of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
The event witnessed the participation of approximately 75 local residents, including recovering individuals from Adullam Rehabilitation Centre and HOPE Rehabilitation Centre, along with youth representatives and members of the local community. The programme served as an effective platform to educate participants on the far-reaching social, psychological and economic consequences of drug abuse, while emphasising the significance of prevention, rehabilitation and sustained community engagement.
Interactive sessions and expert discussions highlighted the critical role of civil society, families, educational institutions and law enforcement agencies in preventing drug abuse and disrupting illicit trafficking networks. Participants were encouraged to remain vigilant, support rehabilitation initiatives and contribute towards safeguarding the younger generation from the harmful effects of narcotics.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by Assam Rifles and the Moreh Youth Club to continue working in close coordination with the local community to combat the scourge of drugs through sustained awareness campaigns, proactive community participation and collaborative action. The initiative reflects the unwavering commitment of Assam Rifles towards strengthening societal resilience and contributing to a safer, healthier and drug-free Moreh.
