Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended the Kargil Vijay Diwas commemoration organised by the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam, at the State War Memorial, Dighalipukhuri, Guwahati, to mark India’s historic victory in the 1999 Kargil War and honour the courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment of the nation’s Armed Forces.
Paying floral tributes to the soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty, the Governor described Kargil Vijay Diwas as a solemn reminder of the indomreitable spirit, valour and patriotism displayed by the Indian Armed Forces in safeguarding the country’s soveignty and territorial integrity.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Acharya said the sacrifices of the Kargil heroes continue to inspire generations of Indians to uphold the values of courage, discipline and selfless service to the nation. He urged the youth to draw inspiration from the lives of the brave soldiers and contribute to nation-building with dedication and commitment.
The Governor also interacted with veterans, serving defence personnel and the families of martyrs, expressing the nation’s gratitude for their sacrifices and reaffirming that India will always remain indebted to its soldiers, whose unwavering dedication ensures the safety and security of every citizen.
On the occasion, the Governor felicitated the next of kin of several gallant soldiers:
– Hony Flag Officer Thogiram Gogoi and Smt Dulu Prabha Gogoi, father and mother of Capt (Late) Jintu Gogoi, VrC.
– Smt Thageswari Das, mother of Gunner Udhab Das.
– Smt Bharati Saikia, wife of Nk (Late) Someswar Saikia, SC.
– Smt Hiranya Gogoi, mother of Sep (Late) Rupom Gogoi, SC.
– Smt Dhal Kumari Shrestha, wife of Hav (Late) Padam Bahadur Shrestha.
The programme was attended by senior Armed Forces officers, defence veterans, civil administration officials, ex-servicemen, NCC cadets, students and members of the public, all of whom paid homage to the heroes of the Kargil War.
The Governor commended the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam, for the successful organisation of the event and appreciated its continued efforts towards the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.
The commemorative programme concluded with patriotic cultural performances and a collective pledge to uphold the ideals of national unity, integrity and selfless service exemplified by the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces.
