The rugged terrain of Auli provided the setting for an intense display of close-quarter counterterrorism training as Indian and US Army soldiers conducted a specialised building-clearance and room-intervention drill during Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2026.

Designed to replicate the complexities of operations in confined urban environments, the exercise focused on coordinated movement, rapid intervention and the employment of specialised capabilities in high-risk close-quarter scenarios.

The drill brought together assault teams, drones, robotic dogs, trained canines and snipers, demonstrating how specialised personnel and emerging technologies can be integrated to support tactical operations and enhance situational awareness.

The training also provided an opportunity for US Army personnel to closely interact with their Indian counterparts and gain practical insights into the equipment, techniques and procedures being employed during the exercise. Such engagements enabled both sides to exchange professional knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of each other’s operational approaches.

Beyond the tactical drill, the exercise highlighted the importance of communication, coordination and interoperability when forces operate together in complex counterterrorism environments.

Yudh Abhyas 2026 continues to provide a valuable platform for the two armies to share operational experiences, refine tactical understanding and strengthen professional bonds through realistic joint training.

The close-quarter exercise underscored a broader objective of the bilateral engagement: building greater interoperability through shared training, technology integration and professional exchange, while enhancing the ability of both forces to operate effectively together in challenging environments.
