The “Cognitive Domain Capsule” was organised at the College of Defence Management (CDM), Integrated Defence Staff (IDS), for participants of HDMC-22, with discussions focusing on the growing significance of the cognitive domain in contemporary warfare and national security.
The panel highlighted that operations in the cognitive domain have emerged as an important element of national security strategy, with relevance across both peacetime and conflict. Participants stressed the need to integrate cognitive-domain considerations into broader defence planning and military operations.
The discussions underscored the evolving nature of modern conflicts, where perceptions, narratives and decision-making are increasingly recognised as critical elements of the battlespace.
The session also emphasised the importance of strengthening cognitive resilience and narrative competence as core defence capabilities, enabling personnel and institutions to better understand and respond to emerging challenges in the information and cognitive environment.
