Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed the redevelopment of three railway stations under the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, further advancing the modernization of railway infrastructure in Assam and West Bengal.
The redeveloped stations are Majbat in Rangiya Division, Jalpaiguri Road in Alipurduar Division and Haldibari in Katihar Division. The project aims to transform the stations into modern, accessible and passenger-friendly transit hubs while preserving their regional architectural and cultural identity.
According to NFR, Majbat station has been redeveloped at a cost of ₹10.19 crore, Jalpaiguri Road at ₹34.80 crore and Haldibari at approximately ₹26 crore.
The upgraded stations have been equipped with improved station buildings, enhanced circulating areas, spacious waiting halls, upgraded platforms, Foot Over Bridges with lifts wherever provided, Divyangjan-friendly facilities, modern toilets, advanced passenger information systems, improved lighting, landscaping and other passenger amenities.
Railway officials said the redevelopment is expected to enhance passenger convenience, strengthen regional connectivity and promote tourism. The initiative is also expected to support socio-economic development by improving accessibility and creating opportunities for trade and commerce in the surrounding areas.
NFR said the upgraded stations would also support programmes such as “One Station One Product”, which provides a platform for local artisans and indigenous products, while contributing to sustainable development and better multimodal connectivity.
The redevelopment forms part of the Government of India’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which seeks to upgrade railway stations across the country with modern infrastructure while reflecting local heritage and improving the overall travel experience.
With the completion of these projects, NFR has further strengthened its efforts to develop modern railway infrastructure and improve passenger services across its network.
