Nearly 1,500 NCC cadets from schools and colleges across Mumbai participated in a Tiranga rally through the historic Fort area on Thursday, showcasing the spirit of youth, discipline and national pride ahead of the 79th Independence Day.
Representing the Army, Naval and Air Wings of the National Cadet Corps, the cadets marched from the iconic Azad Maidan through South Mumbai, carrying the national flag and raising patriotic slogans including “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Ki Jai.” The rally turned the streets of Fort into a vibrant display of patriotism and youth participation.
The event was organised as part of NCC Maharashtra’s Independence Day campaign, promoting the Har Ghar Tiranga initiative and commemorating 150 years of Vande Mataram, which has remained an enduring symbol of India’s freedom struggle and national unity.
The participation of a large number of Girl Cadets added prominence to the event, reflecting the growing role of Nari Shakti in the nation’s youth and leadership landscape. Citizens along the route welcomed the cadets, with many joining in the patriotic celebrations and appreciating their discipline and enthusiasm.
At the culmination of the rally, Major General Vivek Tyagi, Additional Director General, NCC Maharashtra, addressed the cadets and urged them to remain physically fit, develop mental resilience and stay focused on their goals. He emphasised the importance of carrying the values of discipline, teamwork and selfless service learnt through NCC into every sphere of life.
The NCC continues to expand its engagement with emerging areas relevant to India’s future workforce and national security ecosystem. Cadets are being exposed to cyber awareness and cyber defence, drone technology, disaster-management preparedness, digital skills, adventure activities, leadership and community service, alongside traditional NCC training.
The strong presence of young women in the rally also highlighted the changing profile of India’s youth. NCC cadets from Maharashtra have continued to demonstrate their capabilities at national-level events, including the Republic Day Camp 2026 and All India Nau Sainik Camp 2026.
The rally also connected Maharashtra’s historic legacy of courage and leadership, symbolised by the invocation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, with the aspirations of a new generation of Indians contributing to the country’s technological, defence, maritime, aviation and social sectors.
The Independence Day campaign is being conducted across Maharashtra, with the NCC having a presence across all 36 districts and most of the state’s 351 blocks. Cadets are participating in Tiranga rallies, awareness drives and community outreach programmes, while also supporting initiatives related to anti-drug awareness, TB elimination, environmental protection, cleanliness, fitness and community development.
The Mumbai rally underscored the NCC’s role in shaping disciplined, responsible and service-oriented young citizens. As India marks 79 years of Independence, the cadets’ march with the Tiranga conveyed a clear message that patriotism is not limited to a single occasion—it is reflected through discipline, responsibility and service to the nation.
