In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening welfare services for veterans and Veer Naris, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Kolkata (SMPK) handed over four Mini Patient Buses to the Rajya Sainik Board (West Bengal) at INS Netaji Subhas on 12 August.
The Mini Patient Buses, funded under SMPK’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, were handed over in a ceremony attended by officials from the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority, Indian Navy, Rajya Sainik Board (West Bengal) and Zila Sainik Boards.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Rathendra Raman, Chairperson, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority, highlighted SMPK’s continued commitment to community welfare and its efforts towards supporting initiatives benefiting the wider society.
Commodore Ajay Yadav, Naval Officer-in-Charge (West Bengal), thanked SMPK for the gesture, describing it as a reaffirmation of the Indian Navy and SMPK’s commitment to working together in support of national interests.
The four Mini Patient Buses are expected to significantly enhance mobility and access to medical and welfare services for veterans and Veer Naris across West Bengal. The vehicles will be utilised by the Rajya Sainik Board to support the welfare of approximately 1.31 lakh veterans and Veer Naris residing across the state.
The initiative underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between the Indian Navy, port authorities and civil agencies in strengthening support mechanisms for the Armed Forces veteran community.
