In a significant milestone for youth participation in national service, 540 Agniveers of Batch 07/25, including nearly 500 recruits from across the Kashmir Valley, were formally inducted into the Indian Army following a Passing-Out Parade at the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) Regimental Centre in Srinagar.
The ceremony marked the successful completion of 44 weeks of rigorous military training under the Agneepath recruitment scheme and represented the transition of the recruits from civilian life to military service. Conducted with full military honours, the parade showcased the discipline, professionalism and combat readiness attained by the young soldiers during their training.
The event was reviewed by Lieutenant General P.K. Mishra, General Officer Commanding (GOC), White Knight Corps, who inspected the parade and congratulated the newly attested Agniveers on joining the ranks of the Indian Army. Addressing the soldiers, he emphasized the importance of upholding the highest standards of military ethos, professionalism and dedication while serving the nation.
Following the attestation ceremony, the Agniveers took the oath of allegiance, pledging to safeguard India’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. The newly inducted soldiers expressed pride in wearing the uniform and reaffirmed their commitment to serving the country in all operational environments.
Army officials noted that approximately 500 of the inducted Agniveers belong to ten districts of the Kashmir Valley, underscoring the growing enthusiasm among local youth to join the armed forces. The strong representation from the region is viewed as a reflection of increasing participation in national institutions and a reaffirmation of the commitment of Kashmiri youth towards nation-building and public service.
The passing-out parade carried added significance in the context of the region’s security landscape, highlighting the role of local youth in strengthening the country’s defence capabilities and contributing to peace and stability.
Emotional scenes unfolded after the ceremony as families reunited with the newly inducted soldiers following nearly a year of demanding military training. Several parents were also recognised for their support and contribution in encouraging their sons to pursue a career in military service.
The event concluded with the final salute, regimental traditions and the national anthem, symbolising the successful transformation of recruits into soldiers of the Indian Army.
The newly inducted Agniveers now join the ranks of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment, one of the Army’s most distinguished infantry regiments with a proven record of gallantry in numerous operations, including the Kargil conflict.
Under the Agneepath scheme, Agniveers serve in the armed forces for a four-year engagement period, with a select percentage offered permanent enrolment based on merit, performance and organisational requirements.
